A nice, solid RPG Creation Tool, but needs a bit more work.
Graphics – 8/10 – Although the graphics in RPGM3 are not exactly top-quality, they are definitely a lot better than the graphics in some games you can find. Especially when you are on a field map, the scenery in RPGM3 is absolutely amazing. In fact, this game actually has a lens flare option you can toggle on or off. Unfortunately though, the trees are 2-dimensional, and the player can walk right through them, which is definitely a flaw.
Gameplay – 6/10 – If you ever manage to complete a full game using RPGM3, the gameplay can actually be pretty fun. Something I find annoying though is that is lacks a RTS battle system, and you are stuck with the default Turn-Based System. Unfortunately though, the actually game creation process can be long and tedious, especially if you don't have a USB keyboard to type in all your character names, scripts, etc.
Story - ??/10 – In RPGM3, since the player is actually creating the story themselves, it is impossible for me to give the story a fair rating. But considering all the resources RPGM3 provides, I would say it's pretty hard to find a game with a storyline I would rate more than 6 or 7.
Sound – 8/10 – Although it has taken a few steps down from the sound system in the second game, RPGM3 still scores a solid 8 in the sound category. It has a very large variety of songs to choose from, and has great sound effects during battle. You can even hear your character's footsteps depending on what type of land they are walking on.
Controls – 9/10 – I would give the controls in RPGM3 a 9/10, since they are very simple and easy to learn. What it is that keeps them from getting a 10/10 is that the game creator cannot customize the controls themselves, and assign certain buttons to do certain things, such as using an ability.
Playtime – If you are really serious about creating a full game with this software, it is not hard to spend over 70 hours with it. In fact, on my first full game, I spent a combined total of 130 hours, but that was before I got the USB keyboard, which reduced my time to about 90-100 hours for a full game. As you can see, the USB keyboard is definitely worth investing in, as it saved me around 40 hours.
Rent or Buy? - Unfortunately for people looking to rent, this isn't really the question. The real question is "Buy or Don't Buy?" As I said above, it takes well over 70 hours to create a full (good) game, so there is almost no point in renting this game, unless you just want to download and play games created by others.
Overall – 7/10 – Although it is very tedious to make your own complete game using RPGM3's software, given the things you can do with it, and the fact that it is fun to share and exchange games with other people via the Internet, I give RPGM3 a 7/10 as an overall grade.
