Only the hardcore players who are willing to use their brains will want to endure this game's creation process. There's nothing wrong with the stuff this game gives you, and it's quite a lot compared to the last RPG Maker. Graphics are plain by today's standards, but they'll in no way look terrible if you know how to use them. The blur that occurs in this game when something moves is livable, but can be annoying to people with short attention spans. You have a lot to work with in terms of graphics, with over 100 character, enemy, and object models. Sounds are better than in the first game. Music is orchestrated and not MIDI quality, though they're not Final Fantasy caliber, they still get the job done in being decent BGMs. Sound effects are great and many, with instruments, confirm and cancel sounds, and even crowds. They're also 8 bit era effects, like bleeps and bloops. Ah, nostalgia. If you're clever enough to tinker with them, you can create decent songs. The editor itself is large and complex, and most people will be intimidated by it. The event system is still in the game, but with the addition of scripts, it makes the event making process a bit longer and moderately difficult. This does however, affect what can come out of your work. The results of your labor are only as good as the time and effort you put in. Garbage in, garbage out. You're allowed to create your own game, and gameplay wise, you can do almost anything, and I mean, almost anything. People will be surprised at the games that come out for the software, such as platformers, and other games that aren't RPGs at all. The graphics are limited, but that's basically the only thing stopping people from creating their dream game. Other than that, you hardly have any limits. This is the kind of game creation tool for a console that people have been waiting for. If you can get past the steep learning curve and the slight graphics limitations, then you're on your way to designing the game of your dreams.
It's incredibly difficult, trust me. First, I'll make a pro-con list for you to shape the review: Pro: 1. RPG Maker II gives you the chance to make a game with a storyline, unlike RPG Maker XP. 2. The game suppl... Read Full Review
I think the graphics are pretty smooth for this game. It's better than the reviews say, but it's very limited. You aren't allowed to change the look of your characters much at all. They all end up looking so childish. Th... Read Full Review
