Tries to be a great game and fails in so many ways.

In the world of Online games, we look to Guild Wars and World of Warcraft for guidance, but in the dark underground of the MMO world, there are freaks that try hard, and fall flat on their faces.

Runescape, is an online game published and produced by Jagex, this current version is an update over the original 2-D version, which was released prior to the polygon version. (this is just background info)

Now where to begin? The graphics are good for a free java game, but pale in comparison to other free games of this type (Second Life is one example).

The gameplay is typical format of an MMO, develop your character, and adventure, however, the process is quite odd, mixing in traits such as baking skill, woodcutting skill, fishing skills etc. Basic skills are in the mix as well ( attacking skill, which is what you're measured by), is increased through ( you guessed it ) attacking. To raise defense however, you'll need to set your weapon to guard, which feels cumbersome.

The fighting style is repetitive ( watching your character try to hit soemthing,) and there are ( to my knowledge) no skilles to make it more exciting. you can heal yourself with a variety of foods ( bread, fish,) but some must be made with a fire, which, as you should know, is made with your "Fire making skill".

the community in the game isn't quite as friendly as other MMO's and there is ( to my knowledge) no party system, which means you'll have to follow a person around if you want them to be in your party.

The game world is quite big, which is a plus, but monster levels in some areas are ridiculous ( lvl 333? oh please.)

Character classes are technically divided into three areas, these are: Warrior (use weapons) Ranger( bows) and mages. Mages use runes, of which you have certain amounts, the runes are used to cast spells ( i.e. three wind runes+five water runes does something)

The game has recently added player housing, which i believe is a rip off of many other MMO's. In Runescape, not only will the houses vary in size, but you'll need a "Design skill to use " to furnish it.

Now I may sound like i'm pointing out all the negative thingsm but there are a few good things, such as choosing your server each time you log in, a large community, a large PvP area, and love making.. WAIT, did I say love making!? Guess i did, from what I've seen, many Male and Female avatars engage in the "bow emote", with the other avatar dancing.....Alas this could be sensual if not for he clunky character designs.

Overall, if you want am online game to play, that's free, just go with Guild Wars, or if you want a monthly fee ( people who become members have one) just get World Of Warcraft.

Well i hope you learned something of this abysmal game from my very first review!!

OH and if you wondering why i gave sound such a low rating, well, even if you do play it in high res ( which uses sound) it still sounds terrible.
