Good, but could be better.

Rygar: The Legendary Adventure is most definitely the predecessor to God of War. With a Greek/Roman mythology setting, a weapon on a chain, and using points to upgrade your weapons, I felt like I was playing a beta version of God of War.

Story:

The story in Rygar can be confusing. The main story, which is told through CG and in-game sequences, is pretty basic. The confusing part is the side-stories, which tell a little about the history of the characters. The story is told through collectible scrolls and tablets, and I just got confused. Overall, the story is fairly mediocre, and definitely not the game's strength.

Gameplay:

Overall, the gameplay is decent. The controls are solid, like God of War. The one thing that pissed me off though, is the camera. If they were to improve anything, I would highly suggest they implement the right analog stick to control the camera angles. Since the camera angle is fixed, depth perception can be tricky, especially when the camera is far away.

Audio:

The soundtrack for the game is pretty good. The music provides ambience, and it smoothly transitions from wandering music to battle music. The voice acting isn't very good. I was laughing at some of the things Rygar said because he over-exaggerated them.

Graphics:

The game looks beautiful. It has lush environments, and well-drawn characters. The environments look like they were taken right ouf of a Greek mythology book. The CG sequences are very nice as well.

Other:

One of the coolest aspects of the game was the fact that most of the environment was destructible. Columns, rocks, walls, even huge statues could be turned into dust. A problem with the game was that the Japanese-English translations weren't very good. Singular nouns were plural, and sometimes it was hard to make sense of things. It wasn't a big deal though, just a minor thing.

Overall, Rygar: The Legendary Adventure was a good game. It didn't have the best story in the world, but it provided a fun experience.
