Bury those cockroaches!!!

This is going to be the hardest review I have written so far. Scarface is one of my favorite movies. It's not because I love Tony Montana so much; it's because of the moral of the story. Tony was a greedy coked out guy but. There's not much reason to like him in the movie until the end where he finally shows he has some form of morals and doesn't put a hit on a wif and children. That was his undoing and that's why I kind of feel for his character. At the end of the movie I was actually pissed that he was taken out because he did one good thing. I wanted to bury Sosa for what he did! That was my motivation for playing this game.

I thought the story was pretty good and it kept me wanting to play. This became vey important because this game is long; very long. The game has you rebuilding Tony's empire after surviving the raid on his house at the end of the movie. It seems alot of thought went into all the things you need to do in order to run a huge drug operation and take over a city. You have to deal, make connections with suppliers, smuggle and distibute; not to mention fighting off rival gangs and bosses.

The gameplay wasn't too bad but it does seem as if the developers had to keep adding little things to make the gameplay more interesting to keep this one from being a complete bore. The targeting system works well but pretty much forget trying to play without it because you will end up smashing your controller in frustration. I thought reviewers were a little harsh on the driving part; it just takes some getting used to.

The biggest problem I found with the game was the little glitches that are all over the place. Little things like when you make Tony run faster by pressing the x button and you change direction he slows down to normal and you have to press x again, having cars purposly drive into you for no reason, and having enemies spawn up from nowhere within 20 feet of you made me scream obcenities just like Tony the whole time I was playing. Also I had to wonder why the developers decided not to have checkpoints with such long missions. And thats just the major stuff. On the bright side though my Montana impression has gotten a thousand times better! HAHA! Maybe one of the things the developers wanted was to make you so angry that you actually feel like Tony. Anyway if you are going to play this game here are a few pointers....

Learn your map until you know it by heart. Practice driving all the vehicles and use your powerslide alot. Don't taunt victims unless you are under cover because Tony stops shooting in order to yell and takes massive hits. Always pay down your heat. And for heavens sake DON"T TRY TO ALWAYS DEFEND FRONTS!! There's nothing worse than losing progress and millions of dollars trying to take out some petty thugs.
