Sega Nolstalgia

User Rating: 7.5 | Sega Classics Collection PS2
I agree that this anthology is the weakest of the anthologies I've played but despite the graphically update (which is either a good thing or just unnecessary I'll leave that up to you) it really not as bad as people may think.

Pros: Alien Syndrome: An Aliens like game which is a personal favorate from the Sega company, the updated graphics actually helped the game a bit as well as the gameplay just slightly adjusted. I felt this adaption of the arcade game wasn't just more faithful but also in a way a little better because the ongoing action didn't have a slow point or two which I always thought was the game's weakpoint, instead the action felt a little like Smash TV. And we get to see gore on this version which was never in the original.

Columns: Hasn't really changed much still the same except it has a story mode which give the game a little more of a one on one motivation.

Fantasy Zone: A bizzare shooter which became a cult hit. The game has a lot of pluses, more freedom of movement, opportunity to purchase weapons or items which serve as an importance at the right times, but most of all it's still beautiful to look at because of how colorful and bizzare the envoirment and creatures are in the game, it's almost looks a little like something out of a Dr. Seuss book. Monico GP: The original game was rather dated. Updated version breathed new life into this game and helped this classic both look and play better than before.

Outrun: My very personal favorate game, I'm not a big fan of racing games but this is the one I've always liked. It still plays the same as the orginal arcade game along with the beautiful locale backgrounds and of course the soundtrack is intact which was always one of the best things about the game. Space Harrier: Another rather bizzare fantasy shooter. Mainly popular because of it's 3-D graphics and oncoming game play that kept a fast pace. The update didn't hurt it one bit, in fact it made it look a little better and still feels the same. It may seem hard but it's actually a game anyone can easily get though rather fast if you practice enough times.

Tant R and Bonanza Bros: Both games are still full of quarky humor and have a medium dificulty worth going though may'be once.

Virtua Racing: This game by today's standards is a bit dated. But for it's time it was revolutionary on how we play racing games plus it's still fun.

Golden Axe: My personal favorate beat em up game, the translation actually looks pritty good the graphics actually look like an improvement arguably. The mechanics are all there and they actually made the levels a bit longer which is a good thing because it means there are some new chalanges and supprises you haven't seen in the original, even though it might cause a bit of repitition at times but that comes with the terriorry of most beat em up. The music and sound is awsome. So, for Golden Axe fans I recomend giving this game a try and decide for yourself.

Cons: There just weren't nearly enough games to play. I couldn't help but feel from anthologies these days which can hold about 20-25 games, there was a lot missing from this disc, it was almost a rush job. Where the heck is After Burner, Zaxzon, Shnobi, or any other Sega game. I recomend renting this anthology before deciding to by it. Sega didn't go wrong with their choices of games but in the future when it comes to anthologies they need to do better.
