Fans of the anime probably won't be disappointed.
Fans of the anime will feel very confortable with the characters and in this game you'll have a great amount of characters. Initially, you can choose between five or seven characters and as you finish the Story Mode with them, you'll eventually unlock other characters. Each of them have six chapters with different boss at the end of each episode. They're relatively short and the bosses are not astonishingly difficult.
The game is very colorful and the sound effects are pretty convincent but, as a couple of games from the same style, you may have some problems with the cameras, which cannot be easily controlled. Some parts of the scenarios can be destroyed, but doing this will not give you any extra points (well, at least not that I could understand by the status of the end of each level).
Each character has his own original moveset, so you won't feel like you're playing the same thing over and over again. The awful thing about this is that while some characters are quite nimble and nice to play, other characters are painfully slow. I understand that not all of them should be the same, but when you have to run from one side to the other side of the scenario, it takes you AGES to get to where your target is.
Speaking of movements, another aspect of the game that irritated me was the fact that each of the characters have a limited chain number, meaning that they unleash four or five regular attacks (or one strong attack), they HAVE to make a pose, making you vulnerable for your enemy to attack you. This does not turn the gameplay fluid and you feel like you're staggered or something, which can be pretty annoying.
Speaking of annoying, no matter what character you choose to play, you'll have an ally backing you up. That would be good and helpful... if the A.I. helped. The thing is that, for several times, I had to fight on my own while my CPU partner was too busy running against a wall. You'll also notice how much time is wasted when your partner stares at an opponent without taking any action. Or even hitting the walls.
The game has game modes other than the Story Mode. One of the is the Mission Mode, in which you choose a character (and, if I remember correctly, and ally controlled by the computer) and go through several stages. You can also play with your friends. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to test it online.
Overall... a good game for the anime fans. As for the others, I'd recommend Samurai Warriors.
