Shadow of Rome is truly a hack and slash action adventure/stealth game at its core, but dared to sort of include rpg perspective into it. Some how the game reminds u of the movie Gladiator! You play as two different characters who are friends. One is Agrippa, with whom u will be doing all the gladiatorial fighting, and the other is Octavianus who is a lean stealh character. the story revolves around the assassination of Caesar and the imprisonment of Agrippa’s father. the story opens up slowly but smoothly to show us the true culprit.. Game play : there are 2 shades of the game , one is the hack and slash, this is played by Agrippa. the action and button bashing reminds u of Onimusha (same developers),but this is more refined , but hard. The game is very graphic, with lots of blood flying and many amputations going on the screen. There is a huge arsenal of weapons ranging from daggers to catapults. The combat system is fun, but sometimes very hard. The combos are simple and easy to master, but hard to execute. the second shade is the stealth character. this is very simple ducking and hiding behind objects etc.this is where most of the story unravels and here is where the rpg element is added. u have to talk to people, buy stuff etc... Graphics : it is pretty standard for Ps2,doesnt really stand out.but one thing good about it is, that it never lags even when dozens of fights are going on the screen, never ever lags... the art is pretty cool, very original, researched and genuine. the buildings and surroundings are also beautiful. Sound : the music in the game becomes very monotonous, but sometimes changes the pace which is a good thing. the impact sound of different slashes is also very convincing. This game will appeal to every fan of action adventure games. it is a bit hard at times , but the victory is very rewarding. the whole package of the game which is the story, amount of content and huge length of the game makes it a great competitor for other games of its genre. i would suggest u to get this game , but still i think u should rent it first.
Shadow of Rome proves history (though fictionalized a tad) can indeed be fun. Sneaking around, hacking and slashing, and chariot races combine to bring the feel of ancient Rome to your PS2 in a very fun package. The g... Read Full Review
