Ugh. Sadly I remember this dark corner of 16-bit console gaming, and not fondly I can assure you.

Way back in 1992 leading up to the release of Shadow Of The Beast there was a fairly large television ad campaign to drum up a bit of interest, to the point where my young and impressionable brain was convinced this would be a flagship title. Upon first playing this terrible game I was struck by how quickly I would die, just seconds into the opening level. The difficulty was cruel, I caved and used an invulnerable cheat.

Impervious to damage I strode confidently to the end of the first screen. If my memory serves me correctly this took about forty seconds. Then I was underground for another sixty seconds or so. Then the game was over. Yes, that's right, I'd been ripped off. The makers of Shadow Of The Beast actually thought they could get away with selling a two minute game if they simply ramped up the difficulty and made it impossible, then billed it as "the ultimate challenge". Pffft. Back to the store I went, and the refund was swift.

This is shorter than my usual reviews, but that's because the less that is said about this abomination the better. Utter drivel.
