Shadow of the Colossus is a truly stunning game, and should be considered among the PS2's finest.

You play as a young warrior who must defeat 16 Colossi in order to ressurect girl from her sleep. You start off at the temple and a mysterious spirit tells you where to find the first colossus. You will be acommpanied by your horse on your journey. In fact, besides your horse and the colossi themselves, you will not fight or interact with any other character in the game. Not having any sort of enemy in the game feels a bit awkward at first, but the beautiful scenery will make you change your mind, and you'll just want to enjoy the calm ride through the incredibly designed world and soak in all the scenary on the way to fight the next beast. By pressing the circle button the young warrior will raise his blade high and the sun will guide you to your next battle. You'll also use the power of the sun and your sword to shine on the colossal beasts to find their vital signs,or, weak points. Once you find their weak points you must jump onto the beast, climb to its vital sign, and stab away with your sword. The first few colossi are rather simple, and only require you to use your basic weapons and skills. Later on however, you'll do a lot more thinking to defeat your foes. The battles themselves are some of the most epic boss battles in videogaming history. These have to be the largest bosses in any game ever, and the intense fighting and incredible musical score make the battles even more engaging. The game gambles on 16 boss battles and nothing more, and actually pulls it off fabulously. The art design is my personal favorite of any game I have ever played. The graphics are also beautiful but can be a little muddy at times. The game does have some nice qualities that help its replay value a bit too. After completing the game the first time through you will be able to test your skills against the colossi on hard mode, and find some new treats along the way. Shadow of the Colossus is one of the best PS2 games I have played, and anyone with a PS2 should give this game a try. The art, visual style, sound, and immersive gameplay make it a crowing achievement. Shadow Of the Colossus is truly a stunning game, and should be considered among the PS2's finest.
