SotC is one of the most original games I've ever come across. It's basically a platformer, with each of the 16 colossi you must defeat representing a different "level". There is a remarkable deal of variety in the gameplay, although some individual beasts can get a little repetitive. With the unlocakble modes and weapons available,replay value is higher than it would be normally, since much of the initial challenge involves figuring out how to attack each colossus.
If you're looking for something different, a game without guns or cars or hordes of foes to be vanquished, this is definitely worth a look.
