A really fun game but lacks presentation.

User Rating: 8.3 | Shaman King: Master of Spirits GBA
Shaman King Master of Spirits for the GBA is an exciting 2D platformer that may give the Shaman King series a good place in the world of video games.

Story: Yoh and his friends decided to lay low and relax before the next round of the Shaman tournament. One day a mysterious Shaman known as Magister appeared. Magister claimed to seek a book called “The tome of the Shaman” which was apparently in Anna’s possession. Magister intends to revive a powerful ancient and evil shaman known as Mephias, the guardian of demons, who apparently was crowned shaman king 4500 years ago. Naturally refusing to hand over the book, Yoh bravely tried to fight Magister off but during battle he lost his sword of light and on top of that the book’s pages shattered and scattered all over. Magister immediately went out on a search for those pages while Yoh and his friends went on a pursuit to stop him. Game design: Shaman King Master of Spirits is a 2D platformer game. You will start of with a map viewed from a top. There will be different areas to go to with many stages for you to play through. You will be fighting many enemies and will have to fight some of Yoh’s friends, which were manipulated by Magister. There will be different paths you can take. At the world map you can also view options, save game or even go to the shop to stock up on your supplies. There are many places you can go to, from snowy mountains to graveyards. You will be reading dialogues when you meet up with other characters but otherwise the game lacks some scenic presentation.

Game play: You will be playing as Yoh Asakura. You will be given a wooden sword but will later on find your sword of light. You press the A button to jump and B button to cut. Your main spirit parent will be Amidamaru. You can perform Spirit unity attacks with either R or L. You will later obtain other spirits and can adjust them to either be with the R or L button and this way you can perform 2 spirit unity attacks, but using spirit unity will cost you furioko. As Yoh gains more items and equipments you can also fuse with some spirits which will increase Yoh’s performance, such as running faster or increasing health. You will have to obtain spirits of Yoh’s friends in order to proceed further in the game, for example once you battle Trey he will reward you with his spirit Corey. Corey can help you get pass places that are blocked by fire with a nipopo punch. You will obtain other spirits like Tokagero or Eliza. Sound: The music doesn’t really seem very catchy. It’s quite a boring music really but you will hear voice castings from characters when they perform their attacks, which is quite cool.

The game is overall a fun platformer game with lots of Shaman King mix put into it. The game play is very exciting; you will be going through a lot of places gathering spirits and will be using their powers. It would be nice however if the game had a little more scenic presentation.
