I would say this game has a LOT of spunk and potential that was partially lost due to Dreamcast lack of popularity..
This game Shenmue is an alternate reality with a story, you can adventure, drink soda, play games and an arcade, practice and enter plenty of really good and realistic looking Karate moves that just blow you away, the Grapics are STILL amazing, even too this day, the gameplay in general STILL amazes me. :D You can even collect figureines from capsule toy machine, It's pretty fun.
As far as the story goes, Lan Di killed Ryo's father and Ryo wants to take revenge for his father, It's a Story that will continue to be in my heart, and the two Mirrors are very interesting, the story is plain amazing.
The controls are a little on the wooden side, to put it, Ryo walks ALMOST like a robot and his walked is a bit on the quicker side, his voice is alright, but once again a little...dull...but I still like his voice all in all, but what really made me upset is that, when you talk to a random walking person, a lot of them have the SAME voice as one another, I walked up to a girl in Dobuita and she said "Sorry, I dont feel confortable talking to strange men" and so I'm like "Okay, whatever" I then walked up to another girl...COMPLETLY DIFFERENT LOOKING. and yet, she said the EXACT same thing as the girl before with the same voice, now that really got me a little upset.
I like the whole day/night time thing, It gives the game unique aura about it, I also liked the 1986 date, It was modern, yet a liiiitle old at the same time, It's the perfect date for this game, and the setting was in Japan, once again perfect...I like this game for all that it is, there is a lot of stuff to do and It's like a second reality because this game runs around reality, unlike, lets say for example. "Skies of Arcadia", now THAT was a great game, but this review is not for it, now see, Skies of Arcadia was UNREAL, yet Shenmue is, see what I'm sayin? now Fantasy is fun 'n' all but Shenmue takes the cake over any Fantasy game for the Dreamcast.
The battle system was pretty good, no..Awesome and Unexplainably Beautiful! :D...I have played this game over and over and I still like it, almost enough as LoZ: Ocarina of Time, THIS GAME, SHENMUE is a Game that will always and SHOULD always have a place in peoples hearts. and for those of you who have not played this Legendary game, well,...YOU ARE SERIOUSLY MISSING OUT!
Thankyou for reading my review, this has been a great afternoon, thankyou guys I love you!!
