DDS1 is my first foray into shin megami tensei. the artistic stylized world is amazing, but is the gameplay? well...yeah

DDS1 is very pretty. i bought both games, and although i'm only about 1 1/2 hrs into the first game two things seem clear.

1-serph (the hero) doesn't speak or at least he hasn't yet. this will annoy me given enough time.

2-there's a reason several media outlets listed DDS as 2005' rpg of the year over dragonquest 8.

The combat system is surprisingly tight for a title by atlus. I'm not usually impressed with their work. collision detection is perfect. The story really is the high point here...think constantine meets matrix.

The characters and lvlng system are deep and engaging. As to puzzles I haven't seen anything more complicated than a 4th grade math problem but oh well. I look forward to revealing the whole tale, but kudos to atlus. who'd have thought they could make a game this good?
