Persona 3 Portable is a nice PSP exclusive with a new protagonist added to the equation
The gameplay is what you expect from any other persona game a dungeon crawling system with a turn based battle system like the ones you are usually use to when playing JRPG's. The camera does a nice job showing you what is going on but it does jam a few times when it comes to battles. When you are not battling in dungeons you are represented as a dot on the map but its still nice that they didn't reduce the quality of the game overall. Since it is a portable and I understand why they did that. So that can be forgiven
The story is the same as the ps2 installment except it only has "The Journey" storyline but The Answer, the epilogue which was added into the FES ps2 release was removed. With new character interactions which also affects the butterfly effect system. Such as the velvet room siblings when playing as the male protagonist Elizabeth will be your main assistant and for the female protagonist Theodore the youngest of the 3 velvet room siblings is the assistant of the female protagonist. But later on you can complete a special condition allowing both Elizabeth and Theodore to show up during the velvet room visits for both protagnists.
My thoughts for this game is that it is one of the best games made for the psp yet with barely any cons and with a handful of pros with a nice soundtrack completely remastered and an somewhat extended storyline. Overall this is worth importing if you are a japanese speaker. But it is best to wait for the North America localized ver. release which is on July 6th.
The Verdict:
Gameplay: Excellent
Story: Great but epilogue is removed but it does grow on you
Graphics: Real nice to see similar to ps2 version on the psp
Overall: 9.5/10
