Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon is one of those unexpected, genuinely good games.
The controls of this game are fairly straight forward, however the traditional turn-based RPG tends to decrease the amount of enjoyment involved. The controls and gameplay are actually quite similar to the Yu-Gi-Oh games. Games such as 'Yu-Gi-Oh: Duelists of the Roses' has almost an identical battle system as Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon.
The story of this game starts off interesting, however is unable to keep the player hooked due to It's unexpected change in difficulty between each of It's levels, leaving the player feeling a little discouraged from trying.
The game is relatively good for a GBA platform. However, the story and unexpected frequent difficulty changes. Generally speaking, the game is worth playing, however it just feels like a Final Fantasy/Yu-gi-Oh gameplay mashup with Final Fantasy story slapped over it.
