A mediocre action rpg game with fun yet repetative gameplay with a combat system that is too simple for its own good.

User Rating: 6.2 | Shining Tears PS2
You are the common protagonist hero, you find yourself in a bed after a girl who found you washed up on the beach saved your life. Severly injured and suffering from amnesia all you can remember is that your name is Xion and you were found with 2 rings in your possesion. In the debt of your saviors you begin working for the owner of the inn your at and soon find yourself in danger in the heat of the moment your friend puts on one of your rings and you both are granted amazing power. Soon after you find your new home town and the home of your friends to be under attack by a large army and you promise you and your rings will help them defend it.

In Shining Tears there are many playable characters to select as your partner to fight alongside the hero Xion, Among these characters are warriors, mages, archers, and healers giving you different options for a partner. In battle you control Xion and with the opposite analog and the ability to do combo attack you can move and use your partner. Although this system is fairly untouched and is in need of much customization and work it still works decently but could be much better.

You have a variety of abilities you can charge up and use to slay a large amount of enemies at once or pummel one hard you can also block to reduce damage you take or defend your ally from taking damage. The enemies although some are unique are recycled often and you find yourself fighting the same endless crowd of enemies repeatedly. There are few boss fights you come across while destroying the hordes of endless enemies you confront but the ones that are there are fairly fun.

The graphics in Shining Tears are fairly good a bit cartoony but there is nothing wrong with that as long as it is done well, the enviroment and animations all work fluently without problems as you cruise through this action game. Music wise it was very good the music kept the theme of the game well and kept you entertaining it wasn't an amazing score but it was very well done.

Shining Tears is a action role-playing game by Sega and Amusment Vision, overall it is a fun game but with a simple combat system that doesn't have all that much to offer and is fairly short with a mediocre storyline. I find it funny that the game is named Shining Tears and it makes me want to cry just knowing this game title is in any way a referance to the amazing Shining Force series. I belive this game could have been alot better but it was poorly made and has way too little content it is too simple for its own good i would rate it a 6.2 out of 10 for a decent amount of time of mediocre repeatative fun.
