In short, an enjoyable strategy game that's the ideal choice for Genesis-owning manga readers.

User Rating: 8 | Shura no Mon GEN
My Score: 7.83

Shura no Mon (or sometimes known as "Syura no Mon") is a Genesis strategy game that focuses on the story line of the Shura no Mon manga. Mutsu Tsukomo is a professional fighter that must cope with his dark past. What happened was he accidentally killed his brother in a match. Pretty strange, how he can afflict so much damage and feel such aggressiveness toward his own brother...I mean, who "accidentally kills" a family member? But oh well, this isn't the time to judge the manga, this is the time to judge the game, so let's move on. His goal is to find a fighter as strong or maybe even stronger than him. In other words, he wants a worthy opponent. If you're thinking about getting this because it's a strategy game, think on it. Because if you want a war-based strategy game, maybe you'd be better off with Advanced Daisenryaku, Bahamut Senki, or Zan: Yasha Enbukyoku. This, however, is different. You play a fighter. Pick your moves to get your opponent knocked out. If it was a genre, this would be a head-to-head fighting strategy game.

Gameplay - 6.5

The game itself stops a little short. There's basically no replay value whatsoever, unlike Final Fantasy or Crusader of Centy. The fights, however, seem to last in a worth-while way. The HP bar at the bottom of the screen is a nice addition. It seems to be an incorporation of the kind of HP bar that would be in a normal fighting game, like Street Fighter II. But unlike a fighting game, move lists aren't going to help you here; what you need is a lot of strategy and a lot of patience, especially for the later fights. All in all, it's not the most boring game, but not the funnest either.

Graphics - 10

The graphics are visibly flawless. The fighter portraits of you and your enemies is nice artwork, and though the characters move rather stiffly, I have to give the graphics a thumbs up.

Story - 7.0

The story itself isn't a favorite of mine. You fight past some opponents to prove to yourself that there's nobody stronger than you. At one point, you just want to tell the hapless fighter to just face it; nobody can beat him or your skillz. But, this is the fault of the manga, although I would have liked to see more structure put into the story of the game itself.

Overall, it's not like other Mega Drive strategy games. On exact average, I'd give the game a score of 7.83. It's really a fun game, but could have been much more.
