steam takes at least two points off of score for making it difficult to play if not online ( which I haven't needed to do yet but am sure I will) plus forcing on a service I really don't want installed. the game itself is buggy, it was not as polished as it should be. I never had crashing problems till playing on a huge map in mid to late game. i do find it easier to play and like not having the big stacks, it does play different than civ 4, and I do like both (when 5 isn't crashing). could have been an 8 to a 9 for it's type but take 2 pts for crashes and take 2-3 pts for steam leaves it less than average (or what should be average) little bit more are some mods avail that give some free variety which is nice, I really like the game but cant see giving it a higher score. this last bit is filler. leaders speaking their own lang is nice touch. city states add another element to the game it is one you can use or totally ignore (haven't played deity diff yet so maybe more important then?).
