I had the privelege in revisiting my past in this game for it has been a long time since i have played it. I was thrilled to hear that they re-made this game and was longing for the release of it. Though it took me a while to get it i have it now and i love playing it. Though with its faults it has some very good pluses to it. The graphics are very well done, they aren't the best, but they have a good look to them and i have to say the water, though not reflective that much, looks great. The ships are the main part of the whole game and even though they put in great touches by letting you see the men on your ship waving your flag on the deck they do have a small look of underdevelping. Though you can only see this underdeveloping in very close up views it is still there. The sound in this game is extremely good, the gunfire, the voices (what voices there are), the wind and the sound of a ship at sea all immerse you into the world of the carribean and send you to fight your way up the chain of command. When battling though is when the sound is really important because most of the other time you're just listening to a loop of the same music all the time, but when battling the music goes away and in comes the sound of war at sea. The gunfire, the men shouting and the sound of the cannon balls hitting either the water of the ships is just perfect. Granted i haven't had much experience in listening to cannon balls being fired of them hitting ships or the ocean i am certain that they would sound just like in the game. The gameplay in this game takes about 5 mins to get used to and to figure out what exactly you have to do but it isn't hard. The main keys in this game consists of the keypad to the right of your keyboard. Sid Meier's made the idea of the gameplay flawless and so easy to work with that you would have to be seriously medicated to not understand it. Even though during dancing (yes there's dancing...gotta woo the women somehow) and fighting on the deck of some ship you're taking over the controls tend to be the same but also different. The same as in they are all on the keypad but different as in they all have different parts in the different circumstances. Overall i think this game is a great game to have and the biggest plus it has is that it is VERY simple in its design. Anybody can play this game and it doesn't tie your fingers up trying to find the right keys. This game is a must have for anybody who enjoys the time period of pirates and sailing the seven seas. Now, man those guns you fools! Oh yea, and have fun.
