Still, one of the best and scariest horror game of all time.
User Rating: 9.4 | Silent Hill 2 (Special 2 Disc Set) PS2
It's been a while since I played Silent Hill 2, but after watching the movie I decided to play it again. Still, I consider Silent Hill 2 one of the best horror games of all time. This game still amazes me to this day, as no other game freaks me out while playing at night with the lights out and all alone in the house, not even the other Silent Hills. The run n gun type players will find this game slow paced and booring, but that's the intention, as this is no House of the Dead. The premise of this game is to spook and cause tension as you explore the eerie world of Silent Hill. You're James Sunderland and you're out to find the truth about your dead wife. Even though the game starts slow, the intention is to navigate through Silent Hill and find clues to your wife's whereabout. The puzzles are decent enough to solve and the monsters on the streets can easily be avoided to preserve health drinks for later boss fights or tougher enemies. Although the controls might feel a little clunky, the purpose is not to go all GTA on everything you see, so it's all good. But the action and suspense picks up after every puzzle is solved. The further you go, the better the story gets. Now, about the graphics, to me, is still one of the best around, yes even on par with Metal Gear Solid but in a different way. I have a HD tv and the graphics still amazes me even to this day. The environments are well thought out and it's as creepy as it can get, even the character models are well detailed. And the monsters, are so original, it's hard to imagine how they were created. The in game CG are a work of art as they look so real it's scary. Bottom line, this game is only intended for those who are real horror fans and can deal with the game's pace and story. So for all those so called horror fans who never played this game, give it a chance and you'll be grateful that games like this, even though it only comes out once in a blue moon, it's well worth the wait.
