James receives a letter from his wife. She tells him that she is waiting for him in Silent Hill. The only thing is that she has been dead for three years...
The gameplay will be familiar for Silent Hill and survival horror fans. You will do a whole lot of wandering and some puzzle solving. But unlike the Resident Evil games, you will on many occasions be forced to run from the enemy, as you will have limited rounds of ammo as well as your character is not familiar with weapons. He is not from a special national force so that makes it harder for James to hit a target compared to characters found in Reaident Evil. And yes, the game also comes with the same annoying controls found in the first Silent Hill game, as well as the Capcom horror games. But thankfully, you have the option to change from 3D controls to 2D controls in the option menu.
The graphics are beautiful. Not only are they technically superb, but the game also features awesome design. The characters and monsters are detailed and beautifully modeled, and the the monsters are the scariest and most disturbing I've ever seen. The backgrounds are also some of the best I've ever seen in any game, with lot of grit and decay. Silent Hill's snow has been replaced by thick fog, and it works much better than the snow, first of all it looks better and second of all it makes the game scarier. The developers have also added a noise filter which works extremely well and adds to the scary experience.
The game also shines in the sound department. The soundeffects are the best in any game on any platform. Everything from the footsteps to the monster sounds are awesome. The voice acting is also superb, and a huge improvement over the last installment. Lastly, the game also features a great soundtrack.
The game is fairly long for its kind, it will probably take you 10-15 hours to complete the game. The psychologically disturbing story will keep you coming back time and time again. Multiple endings and several unlockables also adds to the game's replay value.
This game shines in so many places, the story, the graphics and the sound are some of the best ever found in a game. This is the most disturbing and scary adventure you will ever embark on. If you want a truly fantastic experience, get this game!
