What makes this game awesome? Its not the gameplay or the fact that weapons break but the main antagonist truly awesome.
In terms of gameplay it remains similar to the previous but for some reason they decided to make weapons break. Admittedly its only golf clubs that break so there isnt much to complain about in reality. Theres also a problem with item storage in this game Not only can you only hold 10 items at a time items like ammo and health drinks cant be combined.
Another unique thing about The Room is the haunting factor. During the second half The room slowly transforms and you need to purify the room using Holy Candles. Its a neat ideaa but can often be annoying.
But then theres ghosts! Unique and rightfully so to Silent Hill 4 are the ghosts theses things represent the victims of main antagonist Walter Sullivan who is also a ghost kinda. Ghosts are indestructible and deal a lot of damage they dont even have to be near you to hurt you. The only way to deal with them are the swords of obedience which pin a ghost to that room for the rest of the game but theres only 5 so use them sparingly. You can also use saint medallions to take less damage but these break overtime.
You will find ghosts annoying but its trivial compared to the next problem Eileen the other protagonist in the game
While not playable she does play a pivotal part in the storys conclusion. Unfortunately this where Silent Hill 4 REALLY starts losing marks because the flaws I mentioned previously can be ignored but this particular problem is present throughout all of the second half of the game Eileen cannot defend herself and can actually harm the player but of course you can stay away when she starts going crazy.
Then theres the music a huge part in the silent hill series. Theres some good songs like Tender sugar and thee games main theme Room of Angel. Personally I recommend looking up the soundtrack as theres some quality music on there.
Then theres the characters Unlike the previous protagonists who have either a dark secret or are connected to the towns dark past The Rooms main protagonist Henry Townshend has no link to the town its known that he has visted the town but overall the real reason hes involved in all this simply because he chose the wrong apartment.
Henry is a very boring character in reality and he can be summed up in 3 words "What the Hell". His english voice actor Eric Bossick I think obviously didnt care during this role he sounds bored out of his skull!
Then theres Eileen Galvin who doesent take part in the story for a while but does effect the conclusion Shes an annoying character outside of the cutscenes when shes involved in the gameplay you will hate her mainly because she will complain if you go too far ahead of her she will attack every monster in sight also any weapons she has takes a spot in your inventory! It is annoying and its there for the entire second half of the game!
Then theres the Main Villian! And he is amazing! Walter Sullivan the silent hill series is kind of hit and miss with villians but hes incredible genuinely a creepy villian with a tragic past and creepy appearance.
His voice actor Dennis Falt did a great job. The way he treats his killing spree ever so calmly makes him very creepy.
Fortunately the final conflict is satisfying it aint on par with the god battle in 3 but its just nice to end the game.
Theres 4 possible endings going from best to worst. They depend on two factors Whether Eileen lives and the condition of Room 302.
In conclusion Silent Hill 4: The Room pales in comparison to the past 3 games Origins is better than this but id like you to remember that originaly this wasnt supposed to be called Silent Hill 4! It was a separate title alone but and that if it hadnt been a Silent Hill title it wouldnt be as well received and also it meant that the awesomeness opf Walter Sullivan would not be known!
