Silent Hill Homecoming

User Rating: 4.5 | Silent Hill: Homecoming PS3
Quite disappointing game which could not be as successful as the first 4 games of the series. I didn't count Origins because it was disappointing, too. There is an obvious truth that we miss "Team Silent" so much. They've created this whole dark and fearful town, but after them as if the entire key elements of the game were cut out.
Anyway, as for the sixth installment Homecoming, things are not pretty good, too. The atmosphere of the game is not bad neither it has the same influence as the previous titles. Again generally things are rusty and bloody. Monsters appear suddenly from a door and a crack on the floor. But these are not enough to make this game scary. To be honest I was only getting scared when fighting with big enemy groups which attack you simultaneously because of the fear of Alex's dying.
On the other hand, combat system was a nightmare for me. All the combos, which I hate pressing the same buttons repeatedly countless time, seemed useless. Because, for me, it was too hard to fight with three or more enemies at the same time, even in normal difficulty. Also dodging was useless too, cause I wasn't quick enough.
Another thing is that all this dodging and combos, I think are not a must for a good game. You could do a good game with more creative puzzles, more unexplored areas and a less Americanized story.
Also I have played the previous installments more than two or three times to get something new, especially to get new endings. But this game made me so disappointed and frustrated that I couldn't stand to replay it once more.
Finally the only thing really cool with Homecoming is its soundtrack. Akira Yamaoka was a great songwriter and he does it once more in Homecoming. My favorites are "One More Soul To The Call" and "This Sacred Line".
Final words about Homecoming; If you're somehow related with Silent Hill, I think you already have it; If you are new to the series, you might enjoy it but not expect much.
