If you're a Silent Hill fan, you'll probably like this game.
STORY:
This is obviously a prequel to the entire series, before even the first game. It's about a trucker named Travis, who's on the open road, who crashes his car. He then enters Silent Hill, trying to find answers about the girl Alessa. This covers the first game, regarding Alessa. Basically, it's really good. You also meet some characters you will recognize from the other games, such as Lisa Garland. Overall, the story is great, though I felt the cutscenes were a bit short though still good.
Score: 8.5
GAMEPLAY:
I liked the combat system; picking up melee weapons and trying to take down enemies with them is fun. The puzzles are what Silent Hill is all about - trying to find keys, open new doors and trying to solve some riddles defines why I like the Silent Hill series. You explore only four places in the entire game - yes, the game is short, I have to say, I beat it in three hours - but it does have replay value such as costumes and new weapons, so I do forgive it. Travis enters through mirrors which will take him to alternate worlds and back again, which I personally like.
Score: 8
GRAPHICS:
I personally think these graphics are absolutely gorgeous. It does capture Silent Hill very well indeed. The fog shows well, the enemies look terrific and so do the other character models. The alternative worlds look scary.
Score: 9
SOUND:
The best music I've heard on the PSP; it's great, it fits well and is quite scary. The sound effects sound okay.
Score: 8
OVERALL:
Despite this game being short, Silent Hill Origins is worth it for the PSP if you are a fan or if you are looking for a good horror game. The replay value gives it a higher score for me.
