SimEarth seems good at first sight, but it's not all it could be...

User Rating: 6.4 | SimEarth: The Living Planet PC
SimEarth seems like a good game. Having your own planet and letting life evolve and become sentient on it, what could be better? Well, other games, actually. Even though it is made by that genius, Will Wright, this game is not all that it could be, and on top of that is pretty hard to learn and play. Now if you're really, really into science, then by all means, get this, but it's too hard for the average person to play. Personally, I liked it myself, but I love science and studied all about plate tectonics and the greenhouse effect and the atmosphere and everything, so that helped. If you're going to play this, a degree in science wouldn't hurt. The graphics are really kinda not that great either, and you're limited to animals that evolved on Earth. I'll make this a short review, because this is an old game, but you can get it really cheap now, so if you remotely think you'll like this, get it. All in all, the average person won't get nine-tenth of the controls in the game, and even I couldn't get a certain creature to evolve the way I wanted it to. It's hard! I have one recommendation, if you want a game by Will Wright that's really great, check out the game Spore. It's not quite on the same premise as SimEarth, but people who like and don't like SimEarth will want to play it. Also, you don't need a science degree to play it.
