I was never really a fan of the tony hawks games, because i had thug 1 and 2 on xbox, but i didn't really like them.I always hoped that there would be another skateboarding game that would take over and be more realistic. So when i heard there was a new skateboarding came coming out called skate, i was immediately excited and i saw the trailer right away, and i was even more excited. The storymode of skate is not amazing but its acceptable. You play the role of a skater who has had an accident on a set of starirs and you have to make it back to the top, doing challenges to earn sponsors, and thats basically it. You get to create your own character, so you can make the character looklike you or make a completely random one. The first time i played skate i actually had to think, am i playing a game?, because the graphics of the environments are very detailed, and the effort that ea have put into the gameplay is very good and reflects the realism of real skateboarding. The main thing that sets skate apart from tony hawks is the control scheme which is called the flickit control, and it has a very innovative feel to it. So you use the right anolugue stick to carry out the tricks in your arsenal, and although it can be tricky, when you have mastered it, the tricks become very satisfying. All good skaters have a skate vid right?, so ea actually pushed my expectations and included a feature called the skate reel, and this lets you create your own clips of your character or a pro if you wish so. you can also share this with friends online and any of your photos that you have taken of the skater in action. The only thing really that slightly dissapointed me about this game is that there is no offline split screen freeroam, instead there is a game mode called s.k.a.t.e, where you do tricks and if your firiend doesn't make the trick on his first and only attempt he gets a letter. The online makes up for it though because you sort of get this freeraom thing but its still only one player, and s.k.a.t.e, and races. There is also a mode where you see who can get the most points in a pool. So for a first attempt this game deserves credit, and who cares if you can't snap your board, or get off your board, or do a darkslide, or skate in nightime, its whats there that counts, and its fantastic. P.s the mega ramp and xgames are very well implemented into this game and they are a good reward for completeing the game.
