Next Gen Graphics Meets Next Gen Gameplay

I've been waiting for a game like this since the PlayStation2 launched. The Tony Hawk series had a monopoly on the skateboarding genre in the ps2/xbox generation consoles, and i would rather play 'Thrasher: Skate and Destroy" (1999) on ps1 over any tony hawk game released.

Skate combines next gen graphics with next gen gameplay and the outcome is a highly enjoyable to play skateboarding game. What sets Skate apart from most other skateboarding games *cough* tony hawk series *cough* is its commitment to realism. The physics and the general pace of the game are very real to life, maybe not 100% accurate, but close enough. Skate excels with graphics, gameplay, control, sound effects, and sound track. Anyone who has tried skateboarding will appreciate the control and realism of this game more than someone who has not. The controls may seem a little difficult at first, but really just need some getting used to. As you get better you'll find pulling off some difficult tricks very rewarding. And when you do you can save your replay, and even upload it online! This game has a story and plenty of tasks for you to do, but in the beginning you'll most likely just skate around and enjoy the gameplay.

There are only a few things i do not like about this game. First, the camera can sometimes be annoying and block you from seeing what you need to see. The game needs some additional camera view options. Also, you cannot get off your skateboard and walk. Skate has open-ended gameplay similar to the Grand Theft Auto series, in which you are placed in a fictional city and can wander and do as you please, and sometimes it would be useful to be able to get off your board so you can reach some difficult places. Lets not forget that this is the first release of most likely many games in this series. The sequels to this game will most likely address and fix any bugs, and improve slightly with each release. I would give this game an even better score if not for the fact that i know they will release a sequel thats even better.
