Growing up, I always looked at skateboarding as a suburban, whiteboy activity that was laughed upon as they buss their asses trying to be Tony Hawk... then Tony Hawk came out... After mastering skate-or-die and 720, I thought that Tony Hawk was the Bee's Knees and nothing would change that. I bought every Tony Hawk with the hope of making my own unique hoodlum amongst preppies and all would be well... Never really got me that good but I was nice in the T.H. games and I mastered most of the tricks and learned how to exploit the games with high score tactics and everything was cool... All hail Christ Air... Then that all changed when I had a chance to befriend a guy who was just skating by one day and I learned that skateboarding is indeed a culture and my ignorance was no longer blissful... I began to see the little things like the importance of photo's and video footage. The importance of truck stiffness and wheel softness... the fact that I ran into many of great boarders and none of them can ollie flip in midair then convert to a christ-air and land. None of them could grind a telephone line and drop that many feet onto flat surface and maintain speed... I was upset... They weren't real skateboarders and the game was reality... then my views change when I popped in skate... From the moment you touch the controller, your soul will become that of your onscreen counterpart... every nook and cranny of this game speaks that of the culture itself. Graphics are second to none... Gameplay is terrific... I love the fact that there are plenty of real life pros in the game and they have been gradually been implemented.... They could have plastered all of the features on the box but didn't when I ran into a few pros that I have grown fond of watching xgames and such is a real treat... this game is a new cult classic for the ages... A breakthrough... The same way we make our younger kinfolk laugh when we pop in Supermario Brothers, This will have the same effect for tomorrow... The only thing that I would like to see in the next one--Have the skater be able to hop off the board and walk around.... Thats about it... Grab onto cars for more speed and momentum...
