One of the best kept secrets is getting the the mainstream attention that it truly diserves. Released just as the dreamscast version blinked out of exsistence,Skies of Acadia was a victim of bad timing. As unfotunate as it is that gamers didn't get a chance to experience this epic journey,it's also a blessing in disguise.Japenese delveloper Overworks didn't feel that the dreamcast version wasn't the complete work. Thus, was a enhanced version was forged. So for those of you who missed out on this remarkable journey the first time around, its ressurected is all the more impressive.

The fact that the gameplay and graphics are still by today's standards shows just how under-appreciated this game was. While subtle enhancments have been made to the character models and battle effects, the overall visual presence doesn't suggest that it was originally constructed two years ago. The true beauty of the game, however isn't the cosmetic ilk,but rather how unique its story and setting are.It veers so far away from the tradditional RPG premise, with a tale of rogues on flying boats,That it emerges something different and refreshing.Overworks even went out of its way to create a unique gameplay experience.Of course leveling up,item usage, and boss battles are still the order of the day.But the general complexity of the combat hones in on elemental properties more than any game before it.Players can change the elemental basis of their weapos on the fly.To exploit their enemies weaknesess.Another interesting alteration ocurs in magic usage. Rather than haveing players to unleash the most devastating of spells early in battle. You acutally have to build up a meter. The characters basically have to focus their energy to fully tap into their powers.

Since a good portion of time is spet sailing through clouds the game also includes vessel versus vessel battles. You'll be asked to fire cannons, fire harpoons, and move stratically through the air.You can even customize your own boat to equip new weapons, upgrade you hull, and choose whos on your crew.As cool as these segments sound and look, their acutally to drawn out.typically uneventful, and slow in execution.Thankfully they don't occur that often.

For those who have already completed the game on the dreamcast.Overworks included over 10 hours of new content.Including interesting back-stories,a new playable character,Wanted missions(hunt down and cature a felon)and a host of mini games. Additonaly, characters can now fast-forward the longwinded spell effects with push of a button.

Age doesn't usualy help games. But nothing could be further from the truth of skies of arcadia. Its matured into a much better title.Whether your a RPG fan or not, this is oe of the most entertaining quests on the market. You'd be a fool to pass it by a second time.
