Some of Sly 3's elements are a step forward for the series, but some, are a step backwards.

Sly Cooper 3: Honor Among Thieves is the third installment in the fan-favorite series. After defeating two iterations of the devious bird Clockwerk, the gang finds itself in trouble at the beginning of the game, mostly because of the incident that happened at the end of Sly 2. For all those who havn’t played Sly 2, Bentley, a nerdy, demolition happy turtle had been paralyzed from the waist down and Murray, a big, pink, powerful hippo blamed himself.

The story in Sly 3 is rather straightforward: You must break into the Cooper family vault. Even though it seems simple, It is most definitely not. First of all, the vault is situated on an uncharted island. This island has been taken over by an evil genius named Dr. M. He’s been trying to open the Cooper family vault for years the most powerful technology that is known to man, but has not yet succeeded. Second of all, for the plan to go through as planned, Sly and the gang must assemble a team of infiltration experts to even get to this vault.

The gameplay in the game has changed significantly over the other games. In this game, you are controlling 8, count em’ 8 unique, and special characters. There abilities range from controlling remote control objects, to transforming into random objects, to blowing guards to smithereens with fireworks. This is all nice and dandy, but I wish that the characters incorporated the pizzazz that appeared in playing as Sly, Bentley or Murray. For example, on some occasions, you get to play as the Cooper Gang’s main rival, Carmelita. This is fun, but it gets old fast, because all your doing is running around and shooting guards with your shock pistol.

The graphics in the game are very detailed. Whether your in the streets of Venice, or sailing the waters of the Caribbean, it always looks really good. But because of all that’s going on the screen at the same time, it’s natural that the framerate drops pretty often. But, it doesn’t seem to bother that much. The developers of the game even took the time to include parts of the game that take advantage of the optional 3D glasses. Look, give credit to Sucker Punch for putting this in, but don’t bother the eye pain.

All in all, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves is a step forward in the series; however some of the elements in the game take a step back. The game is riddled with technical issues, sometimes retarted AI and some characters that are stinkers. But despite the problems, Sly 3 is an awesome game that any platforming fan with good taste should try.
