Sniper Elite 4 puts you as Karl Fairburne in Italy 1943 at the peak of WWII. At start of each mission you are given a brief preview & basically average tasks like kill him, gather this intel or destroy so & so plane or truck.
Where the game wins is its supremely satisfying stealth & shooter mechanics allowing you to play the levels as you wish to. In the same level you could be stealth sneaking & killing in one area & going ballistic in the other area. Enemies respond quite realistically & search you in pairs. Once you get the hang of it, the game is loads of fun with credible sniping spots available in each map for you to target enemy. The crunch effect of bullet zooming in on long distance kills is super. Every level is huge & you have the freedom to go about your objective in whichever order you wish at your own pace. Each mission takes roughly 2 hours to go through. You have an array of techniques at your disposal to complete the objectives apart from guns & grenades. You can booby trap bodies or setup mines on patrol routes or aim for the grenade pouch of enemy to secure a loud multi pronged kill. The fact that the locales are so pretty & setup nicely is another great touch.
I played around 16 hours to complete this wonderful game. The only thing that's lacking is story & the ending is pretty average in terms of story finish. Long time after Splinter Cell & MGS 5 I have enjoyed a game just for its robust shooting & stealth mechanics.
