best online experience on the PS2.
At first it kinda sucked cuz I sucked so bad but once you start getting decent at it, its hella fun online. Also having the PS2 USB headset makes it a lot better since without it, you cant even hear what everyone else is saying.
One thing that isnt good about SOCOM is actually kind of a good thing. At first i didnt like the fact that you cant use mouse and keyboard for your movements etc but thinking about it, it would give players with mouse/keyboards a HUGE advantage and not everyone has one.
The single player is pretty good but online is where the real fun is. I still have yet to finish the single player mode, ive gotten like 7-9 levels in then quit. Although its nice to finish the single player mode cuz you unlock costumes and stuff for multiplayer. In single player, you play through it with a team, the Bravo team and Able team. If you have a USB headset, you can communicate with your teams by saying the exact commands that you are given when pressing the circle button.
Something really nice about online play is the ranking system. There are 5 different room types, rooms for each rank and rooms that all ranks can play. So if your like a LT, you cant play in the ensign rooms etc which i think is a very good ranking system.
The graphics in the game arent STUNNING but are pretty good on the aging PS2. The framerate can chug at times but its still very playable.
I dont know why the online experience is so fun but it just is. It feels very similar to the tom clancy series online shooters but its so much more fun. If you own a PS2 and network adapter, this is definitely a game to get if you havnt already. Its STILL the best online experience on the PS2 thus far.
