The good and the bad of Socom!
With any game, the gameplay is the most important aspect. Everyone knows this and that could be the one thing that makes or breaks a game. The makers of Socom pushed it to the limit and or on boarder-line of a great game and a bad game. The sounds and the look in this game are better than before and they make for an overall good rating towards the game. For the most part the missions are decent, some of them are short and others are long. They gave you the option of having multiple missions to accomplish and you get to choose on how you get the job done. That benifits the aspect good because everytime you play you can get the mission done differently!
The AI (Artificial Intelligence) actually disappointed me. Granted they don't just stand around when their buddies are being killed but some of the stuff they do doesn't make up for it. Just like the old Socoms, the AI will run itno walls and make you wonder if they have any intelligence at all? One of the aspects of the AI is that at times when they can't even see you, or know the distance is to far for them to see your team they do the impossible and find you! There were many different times to where I would poke my head around a corner and they would be looking away from where I was and turn around and start shooting at me.
The difficulty is a little more challenging than before. You have to use tactics to get the job done, so no more running and gunning as many people like to do. But, that is only if you want to get the stealth points and be a good little sailor! One of the things I kept getting iritated with was of the before mentioned fact that the enemy finds you when they really shouldn't be able to. A lot of the times I would become upset, start the mission over when I couldn't be "Stealthy" enough and blow the heck out of everyone I could find and finish the mission just to go to the next.
They have added new weapons and new weapon upgrades to the game. Which make it better than before. It does suck that you only add two attachments to your primary weapon, there are some things that I would have loved to add to certain weapons but couldn't because of two attachment limit. I sometimes think it is funny that my weapon at work has more attachments to it than the weapons in this game have!
I havn't had time to play Socom Online but I have tried it. It is good, but this is coming from someone who played Socom 2 Online for a year-and-a-half before her joined the military. I havn't had the chance to play a lot of the missions online yet, but there are people with reviews who can talk about them more than I could.
Hopefully this review helped some people out. Maybe someone who didn't want to buy the game before wants to now, and maybe someone who wanted to before doesn't now! Just don't let one person's review or one gamesites review deter you from choosing a game you might end up liking!
