Still a Great game
Single player is stil a bit lacking. It is good but the AI still isn't where it should be. It isn't a punishing single player and there is hours of fun to be had here. but most socomers go for the multiplayer part. I know not all go for the multiplayer and those people will enjoy the single player.
Multiplayer is where this game shines. it uses the same socom 3 servers for the combined assault which is good because you have a lot of people to play with right away. On the bad side its still the same as socom 3 and there isnt anything really new, but new maps. The maps mind you are good they add more variety to the game. Glitching is a big problem in this day and age for socom. Unfairness can set in and make the game very frusturating. If you can get past the glitchers then you wont really have too much of a problem. Lag is fairly good also. Their are hiccups occasionaly, but over all the servers run good. You still need to verify your account which is a bummer because the word terrorist has been replaced with mercenaries. Also blood has been taken out which is very dissapointing but not a huge loss. Now it has a Teen rating. Which means they should of got rid of the verifying issue.
Graphicly the game is showing its age, for the big maps and 32 players it does fairly well and holds its own, but next gen graphics are here and it does look fairly ugly. It is on the ps2 so we know what to expect now. The gameplay is there so the graphics arent a big problem.
Sound is a high note the gun fire sounds great. The music also sounds very well done and adds to the intensity of a great gunfight. Some of the sounds maybe recycled, but they still do a very good job to add to the feel of the game.
This socom is a good game if you liked all the others you will like this one. If your still hoping for another strong socom 2. It isn't socom 2 ,but it is still a great game for any socom fan.
