Socom is a great mobile game that will keep you busy while you wait those long hours at the dentist.

User Rating: 8.1 | SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs: Mobile Recon MOBI
SOCOM: Mobile Recon, is a rather interesting little tactical shooter developed by Iron Monkey and published by Jamdat Mobile.
While it doesn't present itself as a timeless mobile game you'll be playing for quite awhile, it's a decent enough distraction that's actually worth playing (something that could only be said about very few mobile games).

Like the PS2 games, you have varying missions that extend from rescuing hostages to eliminating all hostiles in the area. Gameplay is controlled quite well, only the menu navigation might take some time to browse. Everything is controlled from a top down view, and you control two seperate Navy SEALs, gameplay works like you'd expect the console version to if they were cast from this perspective. While unit movement and the such is handled by a PC type interface (press a button and your SEALs will move to that position for example) but firing and sniping are both handled in the classic shooter style, by aiming and firing. Stealth possibilities are included, hiding in shadows and slitting enemy throats is one of the many manner of elimination.

SOCOM looks pretty for a mobile game, with colorful backgrounds and scenery that varies a bit. Explosions look nice, and gunfire looks pretty to boot. Sound is decent, with loud gunshots and several ambient noises scattered across the levels. What makes SOCOM most impressive though, is just the speed of the game, unlike most Mobile games, which are slow crawling agonizing experiences, SOCOM is fast paced, and finally delivers a nice sense of adrenaline.

If the gaming section of your phone has been gathering dust for ages, and you're desperate for a new game, SOCOM should be one of your first priorities.
