Great game. So far, this is as dialed in as we're going to get on shooter without that second analog. (And it works)

Being a moderate SOCOM fan I'm really pleased how this game transitioned to a handheld. As I'm sure you've heard through a few reviews it's pretty similar to the PS2 platform. So familiar that my lazy a*s is enjoying the lounging on the couch playing the PSP version rather that sitting at attention playing SOCOM3 on my TV. Plus all this and on-line play with 16 players, voice chat all in my little hands, come on how can you beat that? Once you get passed the initial 15-30 min learning curve you can pretty much get your character control flow down. The split second transition between movement and free look can be synergistic giving you a very close feel to dual analog control. (If you have the skills) One bad thing at times is the AI. You can be few yards away with high powered unsilenced (loud!) rifle pop a guy in the head and his buddy a few feet from him won't flinch. Or the occasional man walking into a wall continuously. But it's not an unchallenging game even given the lock on mode. Which I find myself not using. You don't get those lovely pink mist head shots as often. Plus I love trying to line solders up head to head and taking two men out with a single bullet! Bad a*s!!! The cut scenes are strong looking graphically similar to the big brother version. It's an easy game but you can get into playing missions a few times over if you get too comfortable running through it gun-ho style and do something to affect your final grade. (If you’re aiming for the perfect score) But not easy enough to take the joy out of it.
It's a fun game and is defiantly worth the purchase to anyone that is a fan of the franchise.
