Does Socom work on the PSP? Heck yes it does...

User Rating: 9.3 | SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo PSP
Take socom 1, 2, and 3 from the Playstation 2 system and bring it over to Sony's handheld, and you get a masterpiece. This game is amazing. You get the whole Socom look, including the weapons, and all the gameplay mechanics you remember from the console version. Socom has to be the best PSP game yet.

Well, starting with gameplay. If you have played the Socoms on ps2 before, then you will be very familiar with it. There is a fantastic lock-on mechanism in which you hold down the right trigger. The X button is shoot, square to reload, o for the command menu (which works amazingly well), and Triangle to crouch and go prone. All the controls feel really nice, and the analog stick movement works really good as well. The whole feel of killing an enemy in Socom is really satisfying. The stealth sequences are excellent too, and are just as satisfying as going all out with a SAW machine gun. You can slit enemie's throats, or bash them in the back of the head with the butt of your gun. The gameplay is so enjoyable, and any socom fan will get right into the action.

Graphics. Decent, but not the best i've seen. They are just a bit weaker than the console version's (obviously), but they still look ok. The only things that looks pretty awful are some of the greenery. The plants and trees up close look like complete trash, but other than that, things look ok. The character models are pretty detailed, even up close, and the weapons are too. Graphics aren't awful, just not the most impressive.

The sound in Socom really gets you going. There are many brutal gunshots heard, and the explosions sound great too. There are some voice overs in cutscenes, and let me tell you, the cut scenes rock. They look incredible, and sound incredible as well. The sound effects relly add to the experience, even when you have your psp on a lower level of volume.

In socom, there is a massive amount of value, considering the game is only 39.99. Along with the lengthly single player campaign, you get an instant action mode, which allows you to go back to any mission you have completed, and play it over and over again in a bunch of different modes. Modes include sabatoge, stealth sabatoge, hostage rescue, and so on. But there's also one tiny little detail I left out, which happens to be the BEST part of Socom, and that would be the online multiplayer. Yes, Socom manages to pack in a campaign, instant action, and an online MP mode, for up to SIXTEEN players. Now that's good stuff. The online play barely lags, and there are very few bugs, which makes it some of the most enjoyable online action since halo. Especially since its on a handheld, and you can search for wi fi hot spots wherever you like. Online, you can use a headset to talk to your teammates, which is very useful, so you and your team can plan strategies. The headset is made specifically for the psp, and it only costs 20 bucks. I suggest you go out and buy one if you're going to play this online, because it's very useful, and you wouldn't want to be caught without one in most situations.

In conclusion, Socom is the most addicting and satisfying game since Lumines came out. Any psp owner HAS to buy this game, or else you're making quite a big mistake.
