This where it all began.
User Rating: 9.2 | SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs PS2
Hard to believe that before Socom there really wasn't much in the line of online shooters for consoles talk less of military 3rd person shooters but with the arrival of this game a slew of wannabes developed. Some decent, some out right gosh awful but none have succeeded in recreating this game's success or fun factor. The games single player is arguably the best experience out of all three. It gives you the sense of eminent danger that kept you focused on the your mission. It is the least forgiving of all three and this is not a bad thing at all as it gave you a great challenge. The missions are very varied and you'll enjoy it for a very long time. The bad about this SP is the AI of your team mates (particularly a chap called BOOMER!). You will be tempted on many occasions to just cap him at the begining of the round (a temptation that you eventually give into). Most of the time though, your team mates are efficient but seeing one of them running into a tree and not having the brain power to know to just go round the damed thing can get a little annoying. It is the best in the series.
MULTIPLAYER though is a another different beast. This is the mother of all online shooters on consoles today. It was the first to make this type of game play highly addictive and it will always be remembered fondly. With 16 players it can get damned right crazy. Not many guys play on it's servers anymore and the cheaters are rampant now but it's still one hell of a game.
It is one of the very few games with incredibly high replay value and worth every penny. I still love this game alot.
