One of Sonic's best performances, can't say the same for the other characters
Gameplay 8/10 - Unlike the 2D Sonics this doesn't really offer any challenge. The major sell of this game is that you can play on the dark side as Eggman, Shadow & Rouge or you can save the world as Sonic, Tails & Knux. Sonic & Shadow's levels are the same high octane speed adrenaline filled courses Sonic fans have stayed loyal to the series for, the problem is that the action doesn't always stay consistant, in other words the game can go from fast paced to stand still in a heart beat. Knuckles & Rouge's levels consist of treasure hunting, this can be quite fun but, can get annoying since the areas where the emeralds are hidden reapeat quite often. Tails & Eggman's level are just like arcade shoot 'em ups, these aren't the best ones imo because, they don't really have the sonic feel to them. After the stages the chao make a return in SA2, the A-Life system is far more in depth than in the first one, sometimes it can be a bit annoying but, the chao section is fun.
Graphics 10/10 - These are by far the best graphics I've seen on the Dreamcast with very detailed enviroment and character models.
Sound 9/10 - The voice acting is better than acting in recent games. The Soundtrack is full of fast rock, techno tempos and beats. The reason this didn't get a 10 is that where there's singing the lyrics repeat over & over again which can get annoying on the hunting levels esspecially with the subpar rapping on Knuckles's levels.
Value 8/10 - The Story mode is rather short even when you try to get 180 emblems can add some life to the game, but the raising of chao is fun when you get the hang of it & can bring some impressive A-Life.
Tilt 10/10 - As a Sonic game it's excellent though it does have less of the blue blur then I wanted. The Chao raising bring something new to the table and the varied gameplay adds some life. Also the secret level is a real treat to any sonic fan!
