Give it a shot, you may just like it.
Sonic & The Black Knight is the 2nd installment in the Sub-storybook series developed for the Wii (The first was Secret Rings). This time Sonic is transported into the world of King Arthur and utilzes sword combat. Of course like secret rings it has each of the other sonic characters in roles pertaining to the legend rather then themselves for example: Lancelot (Shadow).
The story was pretty good such as you're summoned to help Sonic fight against an appriation of King Arthur by Merlina the granddaughter of Merlin in order to save Camelot from the Dark King who has been possessed by the scabbard of Excalibur (Or so it seems, play the game you'll find out). Each cut scene was entertaining and like the predecessor was told in a storybook format. Sonic is still his usual stubborn yet well-meaning self and the supporting cast this time around is actually more enjoyable this time rather in Shadow The Hedgehog.
The Control function is different this time as in you actually get to control Sonic using the Nunchak rather then holding the Wii-mote sideways and using the motion function. Sonic doesn't jog at all the speed is pretty top notch the only problem would be that sometimes the level design doesn't flow too well in coordination sometimes with his speed but this problem doesn't occur too often (Least, when I play).
The action with the sword could've used some refined touches such as getting rid of delays in Sonic slashing the blade when you do so (Using a motionplus will help in lowering this at some point). However this didn't stop me from playing the game, there are frustrating moments though whenever you fight against the bosses (Shadow, Knuckles, Blaze, and King Arthur) when your reaction time will be tested but that's often the case with Wii games.
The music of the game is pretty top notch, so there's nothing I would change there and the sound quality is very good for a Wii game.
Other then refining the sword combat and the storyline being a little short this is actually a decent Sonic game much more then Secret Rings and a bit better then what Unleashed was.
While short, the story isn't so bad there's actually a reasonable plot twist within the game that'll actually pick up some interest to keeping things going smooth. I'm also happy about this game not having Eggman as the villian (Sometimes he needs a break) and it presents some evolution to the Sonic Series as a whole, but i'm not spoiling the ending this is where you go pick this game up to give it a try.
