People HATED this game!? WHAT IDIOTS!

User Rating: 8.5 | Sonic Heroes GC
Ok, a lot of you already know my beef with the sonic fanbase. So lets give them something to cry about.......again.

Sonic heroes is what people consider as the "rotting" of the sonic franchise. Most could be right, but it was a step in the right direction. Only one problem.

Story: 1/10

God have mercy on the poor souls that wrote this pathetic script. Story so corny, oprah would have a ball. Sonic and friends go stop robotnik (with no effort), Amy and friends rescue endangered jelly monsters and frogs, the chaotix finally gets a new job with no pay, and rouge starts the biggest crap fest among sonic fanboys EVERYWHERE! By bringing shadow back from the dead and thus creating our most hated enemies. PURISTS!

Gameplay: 7/10

ok...for all the purists.....THIS IS THE CLOSEST YOU WILL GET TO OLDSCHOOL SONIC! You have levels which harken back to the old days. Level design is very good. Very coloful and in some parts it gets hectic. Multiplayer (for the first time in ages) is actually good. Various modes to play besides friggin racing. And you've got those ever sweet special stages!
Now for the cons. The TEAM PLAY! Basically, what you have is teams of 3. They have a speed, fly, and power character. Each type has their own special abilities which allow them to get through the level. This could've worked if constantly switching a character wasn't a requirement. Each character has been down graded to the point of absurdity where knuckles NOR sonic can clear a high edge. The balancing between the characters puts the speed one to the most useless spot, meaning for enemies and bosses, all attention is deverted to power characters. While just trying to get around ANYTHING req. fly types. This wouldn't be a problem if not ALL the teams (cept chaotix) play EXACTLY THE SAME! Its the same with all teams. The only difference is difficulty. Chaotix are about the only fun guys because they do different missions in their stages. Everyone else is a get to the goal while repetitivly switching characters just to get through a single (LONG) stage. The music is oldschool feeling but I miss the awesome tunes from SA2. Most of the unlockables you could get are wasted on multiplayer while not being bad, ends up being the only thing no one plays because the actual in-game mechanics don't work for these type of games. Well...to the extent where people would be able to know what to switch to in order to win. Its like robotech battlecry cept easier to learn. Most gamers nowadays dont have the patience to learn how to be pro's at the games unless they are extremely popular, which is kinda sad cause games like custom robo deserve some tourny gameplay.

Anywho...the mechanics work against you during boss battles as they are the toughest yet in sonic games. Not only that but the power characters (hardest to control) are the main ones to use. Team battles are horribly broken due to the mechanics as well, and the rules of how they work is absurd, one side can keep slamming attacks in your face and you can NEVER retaliate because of this. This shows the horrible balance withen them. Most teams have no differencing qualities to warrant much replay value among them, and levels are the same. But despite those cons, you still get a decent game out of this. Level design alone makes it great and even with the type zones, you can manage to work around SOME of them. It's a decent game. Play it, and dont use the cons as the major excuse. These problems can be easly ignored.
