Sonic Heroes Review
This Sonic game was great, but I’m just a fan of solo missions rather than the new trio idea…
Sonic Heroes was an exciting release, which everyone had been awaiting. For starters, this game is cool. I think it is pretty fast and the levels are much better looking than previous Sonic games. The game-play introduces a new idea to the Sonic series. In this game, you play as 4 teams who consist of three characters. One person is power, one is flight, and of course, the last is speed. I must say the teams all work out fine: Great selections Sega! So with this, one must run through the numerous environments and reach the goal. This is the basic formula to all Sonic the Hedgehog games and it still works as of today. There are the occasional boss battles, including some nice team matches. The team battles are ones fought much more uniquely than that of the average Eggman robot wars. You must check this new battle out.
The game is easy but there is a variety of levels thrown at you. Some levels may even take you 10 minutes to complete, so don’t expect the average run and reach the goal in a minute scheme. There are many different places to run through, all of which are pretty cool and contain there own individual challenges. A downer is the fact that every team has to beat the same exact levels, and nearly the same exact bosses. This gets repetitive, although the teams have to do different missions in each level. Team Sonic, for example has the objectives of simply reaching the goal. Team Chaotix; however, has you complete specific tasks, mostly collecting designated items.
While this may sound challenging and different, it is still easier than it looks, and repetitive. I like Sonic Heroes in particular because it is a bit more puzzling than the other games. This is one of the few reasons why I like the trio idea. Having a team of three enables you to perform more things than normal. Thus, you have to use specific powers to reach certain goals. I liked this and found it a challenge in some parts.
The reason why I dislike the teams is this blocks access to some of the cool moves the characters can perform individually. Sonic can’t do half the cool slide kicks and jumps he can do in games such as Sonic Adventure. Another is the fact that you have to keep switching off. It may not seem like much, but switching off soon gets to be a mild pain. It isn’t hard, but you have to switch people a lot in each level. This also slows you down. The speed character runs so much faster than the flight and power characters do. So you can’t be fast all the time.
Sonic Heroes improves on some of the things previous Sonic games contained. There are no bugs or glitches, and camera view isn’t too shabby. The levels are more colorful and creative. Also, this game is original. It demonstrates capabilities Sega and Sonic Team can come up with that were never used in older Sonic games. As for graphics, most of it all looks good. The graphics in Sonic Heroes are better than older games. It is so much brighter and there is a huge variety of environments. Sonic and co. look better and improved. New characters are introduced and they all look fantastic and creative.
Sound is also okay. The soundtrack is pretty cool in this game. None of the songs are so good for you to end up humming them, but the music is alright. Voices are a tad bit improved here, yet voicing is something Sonic games need further work on. Overall Sonic Heroes is an alright game. I liked it and all it had. The trio idea and repetitiveness in levels made the game a little bit of a disappointment; nonetheless, it is still a great game. You will enjoy the alright soundtrack, solid game-play, and improved graphics.
It is worth it I would tell you. If you are hardcore Sega fans than you better get going to buy this. Those new to the Sonic series may also enjoy this game. That concludes my review. Hope it helped in a way or another. Peace
