As you beginSonic Mega Collection you have four options: Games, Options, Manuals and Extras. Manuals is a section in the game that lets you see the actual game manuals of every Sonic game that you acquire. You can flip through the pages and read through each complete manual front to back.

Extras mode splits into another three modes: Comics, Illustrations and Movies. In the Comics section you can look at the Sonic the Hedgehog comic books that were released for a short time a few years back. The Illustration section lets you look at Illustrations of all you favorite Sonic characters. Then the Movies section is where you can watch commercials and video footage of Sonic in action.

Now on to the really good part, the games. You start off with seven Sonic games. You can unlock a grand total of twelve games, all on one game disc! The seven games that you start off with on Sonic Mega Collection are:

Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic's debut game
- 1 player

Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Tails makes his debut
- 2 players

Sonic the Hedgehog 3
- Knuckles debut
- 2 players

Sonic and Knuckles
- Play as either Sonic or Knuckles
- 1 player

Sonic 3D Blast
- 3D Sonic
- 1 player

Sonic Spinball
- Sonic style pinball
- Up to 4 players

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
- Sonic style Puyo Puyo puzzle game
- 2 players

There are also five games that you have to unlock: **SPOILER ALERT**.

Blue Sphere
- Sonic Bonus Game
- 1 player

Knuckles in Sonic 2
- Knuckles in Sonic 2
- 2 players

Sonic 3 and Knuckles
- Knuckles in Sonic 3

Ristar
- Not a Sonic Game

Flicky
- Not a Sonic game

Unlocking these games also lets you unlock the manuals for each game. The two oddballs of this package include: Ristar and Flicky, which are both made by the developers of Sonic, but don’t include Sonic in either game.

Multiplayer on this compilation ranges from competing to get coins faster in Sonic 2, to trying to get “four of a kind” in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. What’s missing you ask? Many gamers say Sonic CD. A lot of people were looking forward to this game being included in the package but it didn’t make the cut. Also a Sonic racing game called Sonic R. was wished by many to be included in this package. Although many gamers wanted both those games included in the package, the twelve games more than make up for them.
