Retro sega stuff gets old faster than it got new.

User Rating: 7.5 | Sonic Mega Collection Plus (Greatest Hits) PS2
Here is the problem with this game. No one part of it is overly good or bad, but average across the board. It brings back several arcade classic sonic games and a couple of others like Ooze and Comix Zone. However, almost all of these games aren't that fun. Comix Zone is fun, but nearly every other game is just maddening. The graphics of the games are pretty good for there time, but don't make up for the flawed gameplay. The original sonic is a little worth playing for sonic fans or nostalgia, but not much other reason. Most of the other games don' get much better. The second and third games are more fun, but still not good enough to pick up especially nowadays. Sonic was never very good in the first place. Early on, the insane speed is fun, but slowly starts to get harder, which is normal. However, the later levels require you to go slow. If you go fast, you will run into something you could have only dodged if you knew it was there before you got to it, and even if you would need cracker-jack timing to hit jump in the quarter of a second that the threat is on the screen or off it. The sequels never fix this problem. The later sequels don't fix this, they simply make a new sonic game altogether like SonicRacing or SonicPinBall. They even have their own form of Tetris called Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine. A lot of genres have had these and they are relatively fun, for a minute. A large majority of people who have the game probably won't even unlock the extra hidden games because all that is required to get new ones is to play them for enough time. This is counterproductive because a lot of people would probably rather play something else like Tetris or Dig-Dug. Now, people settle for new flawed crap like Spryo or Pokemon. Fortunately for this game, it's easy to start getting nostalgia and beat through some of your old favorites a couple times and whip the disc across the room where it should stay. The only reasons why this game gets a 7.5 are these:1. Comix Zone- That game is a sweet retro blast. 2. Strength in numbers. A lot of slightly below average games get together to become average. 3. The game has a lot of archives to go through and will be remembered as what not to do when making a game. If you want an anniversary game, get Tomb Raider or Megaman. This game was becoming outdated when it came out. 7.5
