A well timed classic within reach of Sonic's 15th. But will Sonic speed away or stop dead? An in depth Rev

User Rating: 8.6 | Sonic Mega Collection Plus (Greatest Hits) PS2
Sonic has been a great character for the past 15 years, I know him as the mascot for Sega after the ever-so-lame Alex the Kid.
Over 6 years on the Genesis and the Game Gear (Sega's Gameboy) another year or so on the SEGA CD and the Dreamcast. Sonic was not to be seen for another 3 years after Dreamcast and SEGA collapsed. He made his debut return on the PS2, GC and XBOX on Sonic Heros and after that Sonic Rider.

Although the collection only has the original Genesis games and Game Gear games it is good to take note of the history. Well the game always brings nostalgia to my head when I am playing the games, but enough about my own opinion.
All the games are kept in the original condition as the Console games except for a few graphical enhances which somtimes leads to annoying glitches in the game and you have to restart the game. When I say restart I don't mean restart the console, the game itself has a great extra which is the pause game menu when you press R1 (the shoulder buttons are not use for anything), this allows you to:

*Resume the game
*Restart to Game Title
*Save/Load the Game Data
*Controller Confiquration
*View Hints
*And finally quit the game

The save and load feature is slightly slow to tell you the truth but very handy else wise due to the nature of Sonic games that you were not allowed to save or you couldn't, the game save comes in handy especially in tricky situations like bosses.
View Hints is great addition due to the cheats for the old games but with playstation buttons, and I have no argument that they are not needed because they are a neccesity in most gamer's eyes (although you have to unlock the hints by playing that game 2 hours or more).

With a total of 13 games and a total of 7 unlockable games, bring it to a total of 20 games. For many people who read this they want to know the games the thirteen games that come with it are:

For the Genesis
*Sonic 1,2 and 3
*Sonic and Knuckles
*Sonic 3D
*Sonic Spinball
*Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

For the Game Gear
*Sonic the Hedghog
*Sonic Chaos
*Sonic Labyrinth
*Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
*Sonic Blast

As for the unlockable games i won't reveal them as they might be counted as spoilers, if you want to find the other 7 out you can in the other reviews across the web.
There is also an extra section that houses all the sonic memoribllia and comics asell as short movies from Sonic Heros.

Overall a great Collection of games and a bargin to chip in, although i would only imagine people who have had the original Sonic games or have been with the series for a long time will only buy it. Anyway as i always say try it out first.
