Sonic R will mostly appeal to die-hard Sonic fans. Sonic R isn't worth your time if you hate the flaws I mention here.

User Rating: 6.5 | Sonic R SAT
Gameplay:

Sonic R is basically a racing game on foot. You run through 4 3D courses (And 1 unlockable course) using some Sonic characters from the series. After you win first place in all the courses, you're done. And getting in first place in each race can be pretty easy. There's just not much to do in this game. Indeed, there are some extras found, such as unlockable characters, 2P race mode, and some small mini-games, but they won't keep you hooked on with this game too much. Not only is it a short game, but it's also messed up in the controls. Steering your character can be difficult, and handling its speed and when you should slow down can be annoying. So basically, Sonic R is a hard-controlled, short n' easy game.

Graphics:

Sonic R didn't really take a good advantage with the Saturn's hardware. Sonic R features a lot of pop ups as you race. The character models are okay for a Saturn game, but I've seen better for the system. So, Sonic R is an average looking Saturn game.

Sound:

The songs with vocals are nice, but tend to get annoying at times. The sound effects are pretty much from the previous Sonic games. The soundwork is probably the only interesting thing about Sonic R.

Conclusion:

Like I said before, Sonic R will appeal mostly hardcore Sonic fans. If you are looking for a great racing game, Sonic R should not be on your list. I'm not saying Sonic R is a terrible game, I'm just saying it isn't as fun as some other racing games. Anyway, I guess Sonic R is worth a try if you have an open mind, but approach with this with caution.

Pros:

-Catchy music
-Decent variety of unlockables

Cons:

-The controls are sluggish
-Too short
-Songs are annoying at times.
