You'll have definetly heard of this game.It deserves its title as the best sonic game ever(even more so after his recent releases),This is the first game where you first see sonic's then sidekick Miles "tails" Prower,my favourite and one of the most popular sonic characters ever.He can't actually fly in this for some reason,only the computer lets him.The stages are the same as in the first game though theres only 2 acts per zone,excluding metropolis zone.The gameplay was simple,get from one end of the level to another as fast as you can,easy,but it does it so stylishly you'll love every minute of it.There is also a level where sonic or tails get to walk on the wings of a plane.The graphics were amazing for the time,and i could always remember tails' sprite for years after.The backgrounds are nicely detailed,improved from the last game.The badniks(enemies)are all sort of cute,I cant seee why they were so keen to replace them with those uninspired "egg pawns" in more recent games.The bosses are mostly easy,with a major exception being the last boss,which is incredibly hard as you get no rings at all,and can cause some controller smashing moments.The special stages are the best to date and by far the most memorable of all sonic's games,I always had someone to control tails so the chaos emeralds were easier enough get with that system.Super"saiyan"sonic appears when you get all the emeralds,and you can pay him through all the levels you haven't finished yet,which I believe is a feature that should return instead of one,dull stage as super sonic.A disaponiting feature is that tails can't go super,that really annoyed me when i got them all the first time.I adore the soundtrack from this game,very memorable.The multiplayer was very good,and a nice addition from the last game,though I noticed it slowed down sometimes.
Overall,this game is amazing,what sonic is really about.Is a remake needed?The only flaw is the fact tails can't go super,If you have never played it,go and do so right now.
