Sonic 3 (or should I say Sonic 3 with Knuckles add-on) stands out as being the best Sonic ever made, even by today's standards. Sonic 3 still looks great, with its stylish art style and beautiful 3D background and foreground effects. Fluid animations and sprites drawn with a 3D effect really pop out at you. Sonic is fast in Sonic 3. REALLY fast. Like the way it should be right? Controls are ridiculously simple. During the whole course of the game, you'll be using just one button and the D-Pad. This doesn't mean the game is simple cakewalk though. The games gets really hard, especially during levels of the Sonic & Knuckles add-on.

Genesis was oftentimes criticized for the bad-quality sounding sounds in its games. This wasn't true with Sonic 3. One thing that stood about this game, was that it had a heavy emphasis on music. It had music that didn't even sound like video-game music, but it fit anyways. The music ranged from light-hearted and high tempo to mellow and scary. This game used everything the system had to create one of the best soundtracks in video-game history. Ice Cap happens to be one of my favorites (like millions of other people, lol).

Well, overall, Sonic 3 remains an enjoyable, nostalgic, "heartful" game that everyone should play at least once. It's a shame that the Sonic today lost what made this game good. Before you quickly bash the entire Sonic series, remember where it first started.

You can get Sonic 3 for VC on Wii, or you can buy the Sonic Mega Collection that contains all the 2D Sonic games. (Make sure you play it with Sonic & Knuckles add-on for the full experience. I actually waited over 10 years to experience it for not knowing about it, haha)
