A good game for its time and probably even this time.

Easily one of my favorite games, it surpassed every game I had played before it and is a great pastime of mine. I remember when I got this game for my birthday many years ago. This was back when I had friends and wasn’t clinically depressed. I was surprised when I got it home to find that this Genesis game had save files. I had never had a Sega Genesis game before that was able to save games. That must be why it was one of the only Sonic games I ever beat without level skip. Plus I found that the way that this game worked with the cooperative mode was very fun: Tails, a two-tailed fox and companion of Sonic’s, was able to fly Sonic places and so giving the second player could actually play a meaningful part in the game. And since you could now save, becoming Super Sonic was actually easier and the method of obtaining the emeralds was actually fun now (for the most part). There is the introduction of new character Knuckles who appears is many of the Sonic games thereafter and even in the comic books that were somewhat based on the games. Dr. Robotnik is there too (whom I think becomes Dr. Eggman later on in the series) and raising hell the same as ever. There are still basically the same moves as there were in “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” but they varied up the gameplay with snowboarding, vine-swinging, et cetera and with the ability to save now so you don’t have to play non-stop for five hours consecutively. This game also inspired the sequel/expansion “Sonic & Knuckles” which featured “lock-on technology” (Ooo. Aaa.) so you could play Sonic 3 with Knuckles, and there is a whole different story to it (with the same levels). In all this game was extremely good for its time with nice game play, very slick graphics, and a high value of play time and a high replay value. In fact this game is pretty good for this time too.
